Sunrise sits in west Broward, and most of it was built between the mid-seventies and the early nineties. That means single-storey homes on concrete slab, air handlers tucked into garages or hallway closets, and duct runs through attics that reach well over a hundred degrees by two in the afternoon.
Attic ducts are the thing that defines air conditioning repair in Sunrise. Flex duct that has been up there for twenty-five years sags between its supports, the inner liner tears where it kinks, and the insulation compresses until it stops insulating. The system is then cooling the attic on its way to the bedrooms, and the homeowner is told they need a bigger unit when what they need is duct work.
Static pressure across the air handler, temperature split across the coil, and the state of the return. On a Sunrise house the return is very often a single central grille sized for the original equipment, and when a later replacement went up a half ton, nobody enlarged it.
The blower then fights the house every time it runs, which costs capacity and shortens the motor's life.
